Our next tournament is at Walt's Cards in Dundalk, 2 pm on Sunday, Nov 20th.

The format is Secret Santa.  Each person is assigned a target before hand.  You select the essence that your target will use.  If there are multiple main characters, your target selects which main character.  The essence must have a legal main character.  Score printed cards only.

In the tournament, in addition to winning tournament points when you win your game, you also gain:

2 TP if your target gets a full win
1 TP if your target gets a timed win or a timed tie
0 TP if your target gets a timed loss or a full loss

Let the gift giving begin!

I remember Pyris talking about this. Smile
We need to try it, it sounds like fun! Do you build the deck for your target or do they build it?

The target builds it.  This will be my first time so I'm pretty excited.  For those following at home, these are the Secret Santas and their targets:

Krista's target is Vicki
Sean's target is Aaron
Ken's target is Savannah
Pyris's target is Krista
Savannah's target is Ken
Aaron's target is Sean
JT's target is Pyris
Vicki's target is JT

Oh. When Pyris proposed the tourney the "Santa" was to build the deck as well as selecting the main.

I do think we have to say this is definitely limited to a once a year thing.

I agree. It sounds like a lot of fun, but it would make more sense to me if we were awarding the "targeting" player extra tourney points for *building*. If they're just selecting the main...the "target" is the one really doing the work (building and playing) so I don't know that there should be a TP bonus? It seems like the "targeter" is just getting free, extra tourney points for someone else playing/building well??? Not meaning to be a grump or party pooper...am I missing something?

The bonus points can be looked at two ways, as a reward for building or as an incentive to build a decent deck for someone else to use. I think of it more as a protective thing, so that no one ends up with that scenario we had a few years back where a couple people built deck swap decks that there was no way in hell they would ever want to play themselves.

I guess this "pick the main" falls under that same sort of thought. "I won't assign Catherine the Great, since I'm not likely to get any bonus points for that."

I was just talking to Dave about this. Regardless of how it functions, any tourney that awards extra points needs to fall under the once per year deck swap umbrella. We simply can't have bunches of tournament options that award extra points.

I need to make an alternate format master guide that notes which tourneys are limited, which don't give ascension points, which aren't eligible for double points, etc. I'll get that done in the next day or so.
